Named for former Oakland mayor and Judge, John B. Felton, the city of Felton in
Santa Cruz County is a historic northern California community. It is known for its background in the logging industry and for its early cooperation with the Santa Cruz and Felton Railroad. The railroad has since become a major attraction known as the “Roaring Camp Railroad.” Felton began tourist operations in 1963 on the Big Trees Ranch out of the Old Felton Depot. Other popular attractions in the area include a zip-line canopy tour through the Redwood forests, and the Felton Covered Bridge, an 80-foot long covered bridge over the San Lorenzo River built in 1882. The bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Felton homes and residents enjoy the excellent educational facilities provided by San Lorenzo Unified School District, as well as 1 local pre-school, 2 private schools and 1 charter schools.
