About Merced County

Named after the Merced River, Merced County was formed between 1841 and 1844 when California was still a providence of Mexico. Home to rich and fertile soils, paired with a consistent mild climate, this county had relied on agriculture as its main source of business and employment. However, employment opportunities are diversifying as population growth as well as tourism have become an intricate part of this Central Valley county.
